Six months ago, I posted about some of the podcasts I listen to at work in my tomb-like windowless office. Since then, I’ve spotlighted some of my favorites as Podcasts of the Month. But in my neverending quest to spread the nerd gospel, I thought I might just go ahead and post the playlist from my office computer.

Comic Books…Comic Books Everywhere
Hey there nerds of the world. Busy Summer here in my neck of the woods. I’ve been spending a lot more time than I’d like working on my lawn…And I use the word “lawn” loosely. I knew I had to do something when “mowing the lawn” became “mowing the dirt.” I look like PigPen from Peanuts out there, engulfed by a huge, swirling cloud of dust. Kinda embarrassing when the neighbors drive by. But besides that, I’ve been diligently working on getting a big ol’ monkey off my back.
The Question Block Lamp on Kickstarter
I’m sitting here watching Nick Wallenda cross the Grand Canyon on a steel cable without a safety net. All I can think about is that old TV commercial, “Where will you be when diarrhea strikes?” Well, that and what’s shaking on Kickstarter?
Podcast of the Month: Hex Encounter
What’s going on my people? If you’re a wargamer (I’m kinda in that mode these days), listen up, because I’m back with a podcast you need to add to your bookmarks or iTunes playlist. I’m talking about the Hex Encounter wargame podcast.
Currently up to thirteen episodes, H.E. has been around for a little while. However, I think they recently changed hosts/updated their website, so the publish dates listed aren’t necessarily accurate. However long they’ve been doing it, they’re doing it well.
Growing a Grognard–The Seed Has Sprouted
Grog • nard (noun) 1. An old soldier 2. Someone who enjoys playing board wargames, particularly the counter-heavy strategy games from the 1970’s & 80’s.
I’ve probably mentioned before how my son has embraced the gaming hobby full force. He’s all about military stuff and thus, war games are right up his alley. He’s been tearing up the iTunes App Store looking for strategy games for his iPod Touch. I honestly think I could break out Advanced Squad Leader and he’d be, “OK Dad, infantry and armor is great, but when do we get to the Off Board Artillery rules?”
I May ALREADY Be A Loser. Wait…What?
Living in Alabama, with no lottery, the only hope I have for striking it rich, outside of parlaying this blog into a multi-media empire, is the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes. I usually tear these things up and chuck them in the trash, but the recent Powerball Lotto jackpot got me thinking. If money were no object, what would my ultimate nerd cave look like?
More Fun With LEDs
Last week I told you guys about my failed experiment to back-light the TV in my nerd cave. Well, the quest for funkadelic lighting never ends. So back to the drawing board (aka Amazon.com) where I turned up the (take a breath): Aurora Master Multicolor Ocean Wave Light Projector.
Fun With LEDs
I’m not sure why incorporating funky lighting into my nerd cave is such a big deal for me. I guess I just feel like it brings the room to life in ways nothing else does. Maybe as a child of the 70’s, I got bit by the lava lamp bug and never looked back.
Nerd Cave News: 5-12-2013
What’s up Nerds of Planet Earth? Because you requested it…NO, because you DEMANDED it, I’m back with what’s happening in the It Came From The Nerd Cave corner of the world.
Kickstarter Update
My first foray into the world of Kickstarter has so far been a success. Lincoln’s War by Multi-Man Publishing was fully funded and even managed to reach the first stretch goal. I got an e-mail from MMP today letting me know that I’d be getting a survey soon wherein I get to specify my preferences on the premiums for my funding level. In particular, I get to pick whether or not I want my Lincoln’s War Tee-Shirt to be the Abraham Lincoln version or the Jefferson Davis version.
Why?
It’s a question that some of my readers (or friends/family) might ask about this blog. Why do I do it? I’m sure buried back in my early posts, I attempted to answer it. Now that I’ve got a year of blogging under my belt, I thought I’d talk a little about what I’m doing here.
