What it is nerds? I’m back with a conundrum rolled up in some angst then wrapped inside a First World problem. This is a relatively new (for me) issue, so I thought I’d jump on here and do some out-loud thinking and maybe get some feedback from my seven loyal readers.

Here’s the deal:  New Movie X is coming out on DVD/Blu-Ray on Tuesday.  Should I spring for the Blu-Ray or buy it on Amazon as a digital download that gets added to my Amazon “Video Library?”  As usual, there seem to be some pros and cons…

That’s No Moon–That’s a Death Star Painted On An Old Album!

Death Star Spray Paint Stencil Art by Rebecca Gallaher aka "beckosaurus" on Etsy

Death Star Spray Paint Stencil Art by Rebecca Gallaher aka “beckosaurus” on Etsy

The walls of my Nerd Cave are what my wife often calls “busy.” I may be a little dense, but I don’t think she means it as a compliment. But however you want to describe my art collection, it’s all done by design.  I love the crowded look.  I don’t necessarily design the room for other people, but I do enjoy watching folks walk in for the first time and not quite know what they should look at first. Or second…Some people end up looking like a kitten watching a laser dot bounce around.

One of the things I’ve tried to do in choosing art is to look for things that fall outside the realm of traditional rectangular, framed art. I want different.  I like oddly shaped pieces, 3-D art, and such.

Recently, while lying around contemplating my life, I typed “Death Star” into the Etsy search box and stumbled upon Rebecca Gallaher’s Death Star art stenciled/spray-painted onto an old vinyl LP.  My Spidey sense went off with that “I gotta have it” vibe so in the cart it went. You know the rest.  My almost fully operational battle station arrived last week and I love it…

The Hobbit: The Desolation of My Urninary Tract

Tauriel...If loving you is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Tauriel…If loving you is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

Took the family to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug last weekend.  And my kidneys & bladder were soooo thrilled.  I just can’t hold my pee like I used to. Sorry if that’s a bit TMI.  I took my 8 year old nephew to see The Phantom Menace and because I didn’t want him to miss any of the movie, AND I didn’t want to leave him alone, I held it for the whole flick. Sure it hurt, but real men don’t ask for directions and they don’t bail on a flick to hit the can.  But enough about pee.

Step Right Up–Lovecraftian Sideshow Art on Kickstarter

Nyarlathotep sideshow poster by Midnight Circle

Much to my wife’s annoyance, I just can’t keep off my Kickstarter app.  Sitting in the doctor’s office (a frequent happening for me lately)  or waiting for my daughter to wrap up her play rehearsal…I just can’t NOT look to see what’s new.  One of the first things I usually do is search the keywords, “Cthulhu” and “Lovecraft.”   A couple of days ago, I hit upon this project. And while there’s only about a week left in the campaign, I still have to drop a plug for the Lovecraft Inspired Sideshow Art Series by Midnight Circle LLC.

World of Nerdcraft–Sleepy Hollow Scarecrow

SC13

As I mentioned last week, we like to decorate the front of our house for Halloween. Nothing too extravagant…until now.

I was sitting here yesterday working on a blog post when I got a text messaged photo from my Aunt (who’s more like my big-sis) showing off their new home decked out for the season. It inspired me to turn up our own display a notch.  For years, I’ve had it in the back of my mind to construct a scarecrow inspired by the one featured in Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow. In the spirit of Operation Get Off Your Butt, I decided to go ahead and finally build it.

Nerd Cave News: 5-12-2013

Austin Powers

What’s up Nerds of Planet Earth?  Because you requested it…NO, because you DEMANDED it, I’m back with what’s happening in the It Came From The Nerd Cave corner of the world.

Kickstarter Update

My first foray into the world of Kickstarter has so far been a success.  Lincoln’s War by Multi-Man Publishing was fully funded and even managed to reach the first stretch goal.  I got an e-mail from MMP today letting me know that I’d be getting a survey soon wherein I get to specify my preferences on the premiums for my funding level.  In particular, I get to pick whether or not I want my Lincoln’s War Tee-Shirt to be the Abraham Lincoln version or the Jefferson Davis version.

After Action Review–Iron Man 3

iron_man_3 poster

Well, another Free Comic Book Day has come and gone, and I’m happy to report that a great time was had by the It Came From The Nerd Cave family. Following a visit to our friendly neighborhood comic book shop, we headed to the theater for a 3-D showing of Iron Man 3.  And we weren’t the only ones, as the theater was about 90% full.
