What’s up nerds? In my quest to eventually be crowned the “Martha Stewart of Nerd Cave Decor,” I thought I’d put up a quick post showcasing a recent addition to the wall in my personal A.O. (“Area of Operations”).

Coloring Pages–Nerd Cave Style
I was sitting on the couch this morning working on my laptop. My son was playing with the new (vintage 1980’s) G.I. Joe action figures he picked up at Free Comic Book Day. My daughter had apparently been bitten by the coloring bug. She’d broken out her Mongo-sized box of crayons and was working on some teddy bear pages to send to her grandmother and great aunt (our fridge, which is stainless steel, isn’t magnetic–go figure).
I Got To Bag It Up…
Events recently inspired me to track down a good source for plastic zip lock bags. If you’re a true, hardcore nerd, then the topic of plastic bags and their many uses fascinates you. Just admit it. It does.
What’s Going On In The Nerd Cave?
Greetings to my loyal readers. Sitting here on the couch after another mind numbing day in my office dungeon with a tax audit sprinkled on for extra flavor. Oh, your house burned down? Yeah, if you could go ahead and prove it, that’d be great. Anyway, heres a quick update of what’s been happening here in my corner of Nerd Nation.
World of Nerdcraft: My 21st Century Steamer Trunk
Here’s a project I’ve been working on for about three months now. Back when I first set up the Nerd Cave, I bought a large black, plastic storage bin to use as a coffee table/ottoman. My plan was to spray paint it O.D. Green and add some stenciling to make it look like a cargo container off the U.S.S. Sulaco (from the film Aliens). I may still do something like that down the road, but ended up scrapping the idea for now because the storage bin I chose was too tall. It worked great as a coffee table, but as an ottoman, the height tended to hyper-extend my knees. If there’s one thing my knees don’t need, it’s hyper-extension. I couldn’t find another bin that fit what I needed so I back-burnered the whole thing.
It’s an “Alcove”
A few months back, I was sorting through various categories of “stuff” (or “crap” if you listen to my wife). I had the hide-a-bed pulled out since it makes for more comfy movie viewing at night. Between that and the T.V. cart, there was hardly room to move around. Then, I needed something out of the closet. You may recall way back when I said moving the T.V. cart out of the way was easy? Well, not so much. And I certainly wasn’t going to be moving it anywhere with piles of comics, magazines, and other stuff in the way. I had a log jam.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions…
I received some good feedback (get it?) on my eBay rant last week. Well lucky me, I’m back with another. But before I get fired up here, let me note that I learned, after penning that last post, that sellers on eBay apparently can’t leave negative feedback for us buyers. So I need not have feared retaliation had I dropped a zinger on Mr. “Like New (Except for the Crusty Layer of Stickiness & Hair) Superman Sign.” Makes sense I guess. You got my money. What are you gonna complain about?
Happy Anniversary To Me…
Just happened to notice that today marks the one year anniversary of the launch of It Came From The Nerd Cave! Time does fly when you’re having fun. Big thanks to all seven of my readers. Anddddd a big “GO AWAY PLEASE” to all the freaking comment spammers. While I appreciate that you “find my blog amazing and savor my informations*,” no, I’m not going to post a link to your website selling half-price Louis Vuitton bags.
Paul On The Wall
You know me…always on the lookout for something different and/or funky to hang on the wall. And for some reason, I just love the Roswell alien look. I’m not all Fox Mulder about it, but I do like them.
I don’t think you can get too much more out there in terms of art for your wall than the “Roswell the Alien Plaque” from Design Toscano. I’ve talked about D.T. before in my post about accessorizing your nerd cave. One of my favorite things in the cave is still Roswell, the Alien Butler, or as we named him, “Paul.” So, it was only natural that our new acquisition was quickly dubbed “Paul on the Wall.”
I hung him off to the left side of the sofa/hide-a-bed. My mother-in-law recently spent a week with us and I think it was one of her favorite things in the cave. The night light just below adds the perfect amount of creepiness to the whole effect. Get one before they phone home.
Where’s My PS3 Controller, Bedelia?
So, we’re de-cluttering the Nerd Cave this week. Here’s another great find to help you do the same.
If I had a dollar for every time my son asked, “Hey Dad, where’s the PlayStation controller?”, I’d have at least enough to buy a copy of BioShock Infinite. If you have a seven year old, you know they aren’t famous for putting things back in their place.
Enter the Level Up PlayStation Edge Controller and Game Storage Tower. Phewww. That’s a mouthful. Found it on Amazon for 38 bucks. Two days later (thanks Prime), it arrived at the Cave. Went together easily despite some low-star reviews from people who apparently struggle with putting the cap on a pen.
The tower holds 38 games (either PS2 or 3 sized cases) and two wireless controllers. As you can see from my high quality photography, it looks great in the corner and now my little man will never again have to panic when he wants to fire up Lego Batman.
