It’s a question that some of my readers (or friends/family) might ask about this blog.  Why do I do it?  I’m sure buried back in my early posts, I attempted to answer it.  Now that I’ve got a year of blogging under my belt, I thought I’d talk a little about what I’m doing here.

Obviously, when someone goes to the trouble to write essays, articles, reviews, etc., and then publish them on the Web, he (or she) must think he has something worth saying that’s interesting and useful to his audience.  That can suggest a certain level of pretentiousness or even narcissism. I think I’m being honest when I say that neither of those terms apply to me.

My motivation comes from the simple fact that I just love all this quote/unquote “nerdy” stuff.  I love thinking about it, talking about it, writing about it, and reading/listening to other people’s viewpoints. Do I let it totally rule my world?  I don’t think so. In the end, I’m just trying to spread the love.  And I presume that if you’re a visitor and/or frequent reader here, you’re in the same boat as me.

I’ve spent the last 14 or so months building up my nerd cave from an empty extra bedroom into my own personal sanctuary from reality (yeah, I said it). I think everybody needs a space like that, whether you’re into comics, movies, sports, or knitting baby booties.  We all need a place where we can get away from the stresses of work, school, the drive home (DO YOU OWN A TURN SIGNAL?!?!), the weeds in the lawn, and the thousands of other little things that beat us down day in and day out.

I have a great house.  My wife has done an awesome job of getting us back on our feet after the fire.  If you didn’t know, you’d never know that two years ago, we had the clothes on our back and nothing else. That being said, I’m never more relaxed or content than when I’m chilling out in here. I realize that some people would label me materialistic given my obvious obsession with “stuff.” I get that.  And I own it.  I like stuff…especially really cool stuff. What are you gonna do?

I can sum up my goal here pretty simply.  At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I genuinely feel that if something I say/do/write inspires someone to get off the couch, paint four walls, hang some art they love, rock some funky lighting, and create a place where they can forget about the rat race for a little while…well then I’ve accomplished my mission.

As always, if you ever have any suggestions, questions, or observations, please feel free to post a comment or e-mail me at admin@itcamefromthenerdcave.com.  And please, if you know a nerd out there who might like what I’m doing here, hit them up with a link. Until next time…stay nerdy my friends

P.S.  No babies were injured in the making of this post.  At least, that is, until I pull that picture out at his wedding reception.
