Step Right Up–Lovecraftian Sideshow Art on Kickstarter

Nyarlathotep sideshow poster by Midnight Circle

Much to my wife’s annoyance, I just can’t keep off my Kickstarter app.  Sitting in the doctor’s office (a frequent happening for me lately)  or waiting for my daughter to wrap up her play rehearsal…I just can’t NOT look to see what’s new.  One of the first things I usually do is search the keywords, “Cthulhu” and “Lovecraft.”   A couple of days ago, I hit upon this project. And while there’s only about a week left in the campaign, I still have to drop a plug for the Lovecraft Inspired Sideshow Art Series by Midnight Circle LLC.

You might think there’s no new ground to plow as far as the Lovecraft Mythos goes. But you’d be wrong.  Midnight Circle has found a new angle on the whole unspeakable horrors thing that works really well.  For me, it’s one of those, “why didn’t somebody already think of this” things.

In a nutshell, it’s Lovecraft meets early-20th century freak show with art by Shannon Stamey.  Hey, who doesn’t like scoping out some freaky you-know-what.  It’s just harmless fun…except that in a run-of-the-mill sideshow, the Bearded Lady doesn’t drive you insane and devour your soul.

I’ve backed the project for one print, but only due to, shall we say, “budgetary constraints.” Even a manly nerd such as this humble blogger can endure only so many evil-eyes from a certain spouse who shall remain nameless.  And while the Nyarlathotep print is sweet, I’m going for the “Deep One” poster since The Shadow Over Innsmouth is my favorite Lovecraft tale.

As weird as this probably sounds, I’m planning on encasing my print in a worm-eaten & barnacle-encrusted frame and hanging it in the Nerd Cave bathroom.  I think I’ve decided to decorate my currently beige and boring bathroom in a theme of water-based horrors: Creature From The Black Lagoon, Jaws, Shock Waves (who doesn’t love some Nazi zombies?), and now, some Innsmouth fish-freak action.  And if we ever go to sell the house, I’m sure the expression on our realtor’s face when she sees this action will be precious.

So, if you’re a Lovecraft nut like me, head over to Kickstarter and check out this really cool and unique project. As always, thanks for stopping by, and stay nerdy my friends.
