Whyyyyyyyyyy?!?!?!
It’s a question that some of my readers (or friends/family) might ask about this blog. Why do I do it? I’m sure buried back in my early posts, I attempted to answer it. Now that I’ve got a year of blogging under my belt, I thought I’d talk a little about what I’m doing here.
Wrap, wrap, wrap it uppppp…
Recently, I posted about the joys of bagging up magazines, game supplements, etc. Well, if you thought that was odd, let me introduce you to the world of shrink wrapping and the modern nerd.
You know that old saying, “Beauty is only skin deep but ugly is to the bone?” I think the same thing applies to being a nerd. The “to the bone” part that is. Even at age 43, I still find myself getting excited about the new Iron Man film, a particular game or comic book that’s coming out, or reading Lord of the Rings for the umpteenth time.
If you’re like me, you’ve seen the eye rolls when certain friends or family glimpse your nerd cave, catch you reading a comic, or when you talk about the new superhero flick. Am I rocking a Peter Pan complex or something? In the end, I really don’t care. I love what I’m doing and frankly, the eye rollers are some of the most boring people I know.
That being said, I do find it interesting that my identity, personality trait, or whatever you want to call it, even manages to permeate my dreams. I’ll explain…
Where’s my cake?
Just happened to notice that today marks the one year anniversary of the launch of It Came From The Nerd Cave! Time does fly when you’re having fun. Big thanks to all seven of my readers. Anddddd a big “GO AWAY PLEASE” to all the freaking comment spammers. While I appreciate that you “find my blog amazing and savor my informations*,” no, I’m not going to post a link to your website selling half-price Louis Vuitton bags.
So, last time we learned that if you’re gonna collect comic books, you’re gonna want to insure them. Whether that’s through your normal insurance carrier or a company that specializes in collectibles…I strongly suggest you do something.
Today’s sermon is less of a “do this” thing because frankly, I hope you never find yourself in this position. This is more of an “I wonder” type thing.

We’re coming up on the two-year anniversary of our house fire. Admittedly, I’m feeling a little melancholy about it. Obviously, there are a whole bunch of different facets to going through a personal disaster, whether it’s a fire, tornado, flood, etc. Since this blog is about being a nerd, I’m going to talk about that angle. But believe me, I’m not saying that this particular topic is the most important in my mind, only that it’s what I feel like talking about here.
“So…what got you…uh…back on eBay?”
I got asked that question the other day at lunch. The inquiry came from my lovely wife. We’ve had an eBay account together since about 2001. Now that we both have iPhones, she can, shall we say, “check up” on me anytime/anywhere.
