I’ve mentioned that I’m something of a “late-adopter” when it comes to new technology. Often, my worldview can be summed up by the saying, “I fear change.” But sooner or later, when I can’t ignore the chatter about something, I’ll go check it out.
Such is the case with Kickstarter. If you’re not familiar with the website, it’s basically a site set up to allow “crowd funding” of a huge variety of creative projects. It’s pretty simple–you find a project that appeals to you, then you pledge a certain amount of money. The more you pledge, the more you get. IF the project meets the minimum funding requirement set by the creator(s). There’s also something called “stretch goals” which is bonus swag and/or content if a project get’s funded beyond the original goal.
I listen to a lot of podcasts and you almost can’t tune into one related to comics or games without the topic of Kickstarter coming up. I’ve checked out a few KS projects here and there but nothing grabbed me enough to get me to crack open the old wallet.
Then, a few days ago, I received an e-mail from Multi-Man Publishing asking me to check out their KS project, Lincoln’s War. I’ll leave it to MMP to describe the game as they can do a better job than me. I’ll just say that if you’re a Civil War buff/gamer, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Do I need another game? No. But when has that ever stopped me? After reading the game’s description, I decided to jump in and pledge at the $70 level which gets me a copy of the game plus some bonus swag, which in this case, includes a t-shirt and a magnet (MMP must know I’m a sucker for magnets).
Lincoln’s War looks to ship in July of 2013…assuming the game gets funded. As I write this, the project is still about $5,000 short of the $40,000 goal needed to get the game published. Hopefully, the gaming community will get the word out and we’ll see this very promising game hit our shelves and gaming tables this Summer.
