The Kickstarter Files–The Catastic Four vs. Pugs in Spandex

Man, I love me some Kickstarter. My “collecting” behavior seems to run in cycles. I was Hell on wheels on eBay for awhile. Then I fell in love with Etsy.  Now, my sweet addiction is Kickstarter.

I’ve backed twenty-four projects since April.  I haven’t received anything yet…probably because nothing I’ve backed has reached its due date. But I still feel a little like a kid on Christmas Eve.  It’s like there’s a giant Bag of Holding in the sky, ready to shower me with swag at any moment.

The latest project I’m supporting is some really cool art by a group of guys out of Seattle known as PugFrog Productions.  Their nerd-friendly offering is Marvelous Pet Heroes: A Parody.  It’s cats, pugs, and bunnies rocking familiar costumes in hilarious spoofs of famous Marvel Comics covers. I love critters and I love old school comics. This one was an easy call.

I sprung for a 12×18 giclee print of the Catastic Four (pictured at the top).  If you’ve read much of my stuff, you know we’re crazy cat people (except for my son who proclaims, “I like them…I just don’t want to touch or interact with them and keep them out of my room while we’re talking about it.”)

The Fantastic Four reimagined as felines is right up my hallway.  The Nerd Cave Hallway that is.  Cause that’s where it’s going to be hanging since I’m pretty much fresh out of wall space in the cave. Surprisingly, my wife didn’t say “do what?” when I casually mentioned it.   I think she’s come to realize that her boring “grown-up” bedroom isn’t all that great.

Anyway,if you’re looking for some cool comic-inspired art depicting furry little creatures in Spandex, and who isn’t, check out the Marvelous Pet Heroes project.  Until next time…stay nerdy my friends.
